Summary

Mixed yarn, commonly referred to as chicken tracks, wild yarn, or foreign yarn, is a manufacturing-related appearance condition caused by the inclusion of yarns with different fiber type or processing characteristics within the same carpet. The condition occurs when one or more yarn ends differ in polymer type (fiber chemistry), crimp (the natural wave built into the fiber), twist (how tightly the yarn is wound), or stretch history, causing them to absorb dye differently or reflect light differently than surrounding yarns.
