EN 16094 Microscratch Test

Martindale_small

This method uses a Martindale tester to evaluate microscratch resistance of laminate, resilient, and engineered wood flooring.   The method employs two separate test procedures (A and B):  one which evaluates resistance to change in gloss level (A), and one which evaluates resistance to visible surface scratching (B).  Both procedures start with the flooring sample being placed on the test plate, at which point a weighted a guide plate with a scrub material taped to the bottom is placed atop the sample.  The guide plates are moved across the samples in a “Lissajous” figure a set number of cycles, after which the sample is evaluated for gloss change/scratching.  The number of cycles, amount of weight on the guide plate, and the type of scrub material differs depending on the test procedure.  EN 16094 includes a grading matrix which details how to evaluate and report the product’s performance.
