Mechanical trafficking apparatus. Multi footed pod traverses across a material by rotating in a drum. The sample is graded by the CRI Reference Scales. 12,000 cycles are normally conducted for commercial-grade materials. 4,000 cycles are normally conducted for residential-grade materials. The instrument is composed of a circular rotating drum with carpet placed on the inside part of the drum. The carpet face is placed inward within the center of the drum. Placed inside the drum is an 8-pound steel ball with six pods. As the drum rotates, the ball falls on the carpet face, simulating a falling footstep.
