Pile Weight
ASTM D5848 -Pile Weight of Textile Floor Coverings
The test method used to determine the amount of pile fiber in a textile floor covering. Pile weight includes face weight, fiber above the backing, and fiber in and through the backing system. Testing is required by FHA, HUD, and GSA. FHA allows 7% tolerance from the listed minimum unless the ultimate limit is listed. 7% tolerance applies only above the listed minimum – no negative tolerance below the minimum. GSA allows 5% tolerance from listed weight specifications.
